Maharashtra forms transit task force for urban mobility expansion

The Maharashtra government has established a high-level task force to design a comprehensive transit network framework as part of its ‘Viksit Maharashtra 2047’ vision. The initiative aims to modernize urban mobility by expanding railway networks, metro corridors, and Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS) across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and other major urban centers in the state.

Chaired by the Chairman and Managing Director of the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), the task force is mandated to submit its strategic recommendations and report within six months. Its responsibilities include conducting feasibility and economic viability assessments for various transport systems, ensuring seamless integration of public transit, and evaluating the implementation of semi-high-speed rail to connect major cities.

The task force includes key officials from the Urban Development Department, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) in Nagpur and Pune, and the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL).
