Maharashtra government criticized over 70,000 vacant posts

Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken has criticized the Maharashtra government for failing to fill more than 70,000 vacant government positions. Maken highlighted that despite previous announcements by the state government and the Chief Minister regarding upcoming recruitment, many aspirants are losing crucial years of their careers due to delays.

Students in Pune have staged protests demanding the immediate filling of these vacancies. Rahul Gandhi has expressed support for the candidates, emphasizing that the situation requires ‘action, not assurances.’

Concerns have also been raised regarding administrative inertia within the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). The State Services Main Examination 2025 has yet to produce final results, and the 2026 examination, which was scheduled to begin on October 3, has been postponed.
