Maharashtra Government Revises Infrastructure Plans Amid Safety and Security Concerns

Following a recent building collapse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra authorities ordered the evacuation of 1,074 unsafe structures to prevent further incidents while a probe continues. State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the relocation of his office to Mumbai's Air India building, a move projected to save about ₹200 crore for the state. Concurrently, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray alleged that ₹18 crore in donations are being siphoned from the Siddhivinayak Temple, prompting political demands for proof.

In a separate development, the Maharashtra government scaled down the planned Parivahan Bhavan in Worli after height objections from the Indian Navy and the Ministry of Defence. The original 16‑storey design was reduced to a ground floor, two podiums and four upper floors, with a government resolution clearing the revised plan for construction. The new transport headquarters will consolidate the Transport Commissionerate’s offices and is expected to begin soon.

Additional city actions included a Mumbai police rescue of a kidnapped infant, a BMC drive to clear footpath encroachments, and ongoing monsoon weather warnings.
