Maharashtra implements AI policy panels and electoral roll updates
The Maharashtra government has established a three-tier committee structure to oversee the implementation of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2026. This framework includes a State Level Steering Committee led by the chief secretary to provide strategic direction, an Executive Committee to approve incentives and subsidies, and a Technical Committee to ensure compliance and monitor projects.
In separate administrative developments, the Election Commission of India reported that Maharashtra received over 1.96 million electoral forms between August 31 and October 26. These submissions, which include new voter registrations, address changes, and objections, follow a special intensive revision that previously excluded over 2.06 crore electors. The final electoral rolls for the state are scheduled to be published on November 16.
Additionally, the state government has allocated Rs 391.02 crore to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to facilitate salary payments for approximately 83,000 employees ahead of the Diwali festival. While the allocation aims to expedite disbursements, labor representatives have expressed concern that the amount may only cover net salaries and fail to address statutory dues such as provident funds.
