Maharashtra metro projects receive major approvals and funding

Major metro infrastructure developments are advancing in Maharashtra, India, through new project approvals and significant financial backing.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has unanimously approved a proposed 12,937 crore rupee metro route connecting Nigdi-Chakane. The 295 km corridor will feature 34 stations, with 28 located within the Pimpri Chinchwad municipal limits. This project, prepared by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, aims to connect the IT hub of Hinjewadi with the automobile hub of Chakan. The proposal is now being forwarded to the state government for final approval.

In Mumbai, the state government has approved loans totaling 832.51 crore rupees to accelerate five metro routes. The funding includes 666.03 crore rupees from KfW Bank for Metro Lines 4 and 4A, and 166.48 crore rupees from the New Development Bank for Metro Lines 2B, 2A, and 7. These disbursements are part of larger credit facilities intended to improve connectivity across Mumbai and Thane, providing faster public transport options for commuters.
