Maharashtra milk prices to rise by Rs 2 per litre from August 11
Milk prices in Maharashtra are set to increase by Rs 2 per litre for both cow and buffalo milk, effective August 11. The decision was reached by the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association during a meeting chaired by Gopalrao Mhaske.
Industry representatives cited rising operational costs as the primary driver for the hike. Specifically, diesel prices have increased by approximately Rs 10 per litre, and packaging costs have risen by about 30 per cent. Additionally, higher milk procurement prices have placed further financial pressure on dairies. The association also indicated that other dairy products could see price increases of up to 10 per cent.
This price adjustment occurs amid national discussions regarding milk pricing. The Indian government recently clarified in Parliament that there is currently no proposal to introduce a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk, meaning prices will continue to be determined by market conditions and individual cooperatives or private dairies. To support the sector, the government noted it has been strengthening dairy infrastructure and quality monitoring through various cooperative societies and testing devices.
