MPSC cancels Drug Inspector recruitment following paper leak arrests
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has cancelled the recruitment process for Drug Inspector (Group-B) positions in the Food and Drug Administration Department following a major paper leak scandal. The decision follows a preliminary investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch, which found that question papers for the March 22 screening exam were illegally accessed and circulated before the test.
Authorities have arrested six individuals, including three MPSC officials: Assistant Section Officers Vishweshwar Dattatraya Nakate and Gopal Bhattu Marathe, and Under Secretary Abhijit Ganpatrao Lendwe. Other detainees include Pravin Dilip Patil, director of Kautilya Academy, and alleged conspirators Amrut Namdeo Patil and Lokesh (alias Gaurav) Rajendra Patil. Investigations revealed a complex scheme involving a teacher from Nandurbar, Amrut Patil, who allegedly orchestrated the leak to benefit his daughter, Rutuja Patil, who subsequently topped the merit list.
In a dramatic turn, Lokesh, who initially acted as a whistleblower by reporting the leak to the MPSC, was identified by police as a participant in the conspiracy. He allegedly received the leaked paper from his ex-girlfriend, Rutuja, and reported the matter only after their relationship ended. The MPSC has announced it will conduct a fresh examination for the posts, and candidates will not be required to re-apply or pay additional fees.
