Maharashtra sees closure of 2,000 government schools, MP Sanjay Raut blames education scandal

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said that about 2,000 government schools in Maharashtra have already been shut down, accusing the state’s education system of a severe crisis. He linked the closures to a series of recent scandals, including a fake‑degree fraud at Pune University, a mark‑sheet scam, and the leakage of TET and MPPSC exam papers.

Raut alleged that the bulk of the paper‑leak crimes originated in Pune and Latur and blamed BJP‑aligned officials for appointing people to set exam papers for profit. He criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, claiming that massive scams are running under his watch in the education department, and urged the passage of an “anti‑paper‑leak” bill. Raut also suggested that Fadnavis should be appointed as the education minister and referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s purported comments on the issue.
