Maharashtra sugarcane crops destroyed by electrical short circuits

Multiple sugarcane crops in Maharashtra have been destroyed by fires caused by electrical short circuits. In Ambada Taluka, a short circuit in a nearby electrical DP caused a fire that consumed approximately four acres of sugarcane in Gorakhnath Mundhe’s field.

In a separate incident in Chandoli Khurd, farmer Dnyaneshwar Martand Bangar suffered a loss of approximately 130 to 140 tons of sugarcane, valued at roughly four lakh rupees. The fire, which took three and a half hours to control, occurred as the crop was nearly ready for harvest.

Local farmers and community leaders are calling for government officials to conduct damage assessments and provide financial compensation. There are also growing demands for the regular maintenance of electrical lines and DPs to prevent future incidents, with suggestions to reroute power lines away from agricultural fields to ensure crop safety.
