Maharashtra to develop Innovation City and AI hubs

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has outlined strategic plans to transform the state into a global innovation hub, leveraging its position as India’s leading startup capital. The state currently hosts over 30,000 active ventures, accounting for more than 18% of the nation's total startups.

Key initiatives include the construction of a 300-acre Innovation City in Navi Mumbai, which will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced deep-tech research. Under the Maharashtra Artificial Intelligence Policy 2026, the government intends to establish dedicated AI incubators and provide training for over 200,000 professionals and youth. Additionally, the ‘M-Hub’ startup incubator is under development.

Fadnavis emphasized that education, training, and employment are the essential pillars for achieving a developed India by 2047. He highlighted the importance of creating an innovation pipeline that connects talent from tier-2 and tier-3 regional centers, such as Nagpur and Nashik, to the global market. The state aims to reach a $1 trillion economy by 2030 and expand to $2 trillion by 2035.
