Maharashtra to Extend Bike‑Taxi Rules to Food‑Delivery Platforms
Maharashtra's state government is reviewing amendments to the Bike‑Taxi Rules, 2025, that would bring food‑delivery and quick‑commerce services such as Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit and Zepto under the same regulatory framework applied to ride‑hailing aggregators.
The draft provisions would require these platforms to operate electric‑vehicle‑only fleets, install GPS tracking, obtain insurance and a licence identification number, and contribute 2 % of each fare to a state‑run driver welfare fund. The fund is intended to provide pensions, accident insurance, loans for EV purchases and educational assistance for workers’ children. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said the changes would apply to bikes travelling less than 15 km.
