Maharashtra to implement AI monitoring for app-based taxis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the state Transport Department to develop an advanced digital platform integrated with artificial intelligence to oversee app-based passenger transport services. The initiative aims to enhance passenger safety, increase transparency, and ensure organized operations within the aggregator sector.

The proposed AI-driven system will analyze vehicle operations, driver shifts, and compliance with regulations. By centralizing data, the platform will provide immediate access to vehicle registration, driver details, licenses, police verification records, and parking locations. This digital oversight is intended to help authorities take timely action against rule violations.

A key focus of the new policy, under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Aggregator Rules 2026, is to ensure fair ride allocation. The system seeks to provide equal opportunities for both independent taxi drivers and those affiliated with large aggregator companies, addressing concerns regarding disparities in how rides are distributed by digital platforms.
