Maharashtra to introduce blockchain land tokenization and land titling laws
The Maharashtra government is developing new legislative frameworks to modernize land ownership and asset management. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the development of the Maharashtra Digitization and Exchange of Land Token Asset (DELTA) Act. This proposed framework aims to use blockchain technology for the tokenization of land and other immovable assets to increase transparency, liquidity, and access to capital.
Additionally, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the state plans to introduce a Land Titling Act by December. This legislation would make Maharashtra the first Indian state to provide definitive property ownership records. The initiative includes the creation of property cards featuring QR codes for data access and a Vertical Property Card system to record individual land shares for flat owners in buildings. To support these efforts, the government is deploying licensed surveyors and utilizing modern technology, such as drones and rovers, to reduce measurement discrepancies and litigation.
