Maharashtra to launch Maha-ID digital identity for public services

The Maharashtra state government is preparing to launch ‘Maha-ID’, an integrated digital identification framework designed to streamline access to public services and welfare programs. Linked directly to the Aadhaar system, this identifier will allow citizens to access subsidies, schemes, and information across various state departments without the need to repeatedly submit physical documents such as domicile or income certificates.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed government departments to utilize information technology and artificial intelligence to enable citizens to access services from their homes. The initiative aims to reduce administrative burdens, shorten processing times, and improve transparency. By integrating existing databases, the system seeks to minimize duplication in service delivery and simplify interactions for students, farmers, senior citizens, and other beneficiaries.

The project is expected to be outlined by the Chief Minister around Independence Day, with an official launch to follow. The initiative is part of a broader digital governance strategy to shift from department-centric processes to a unified, citizen-focused model.
