Mahathir Mohamad receives care from multicultural medical team

A multicultural medical team has drawn public attention for providing care to former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad following the passing of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

Dr Iskandar Mirza Amran, a cardiology fellow at the National Heart Institute (IJN), reported that he was tasked with monitoring Mahathir’s health during the funeral proceedings. Dr Iskandar noted that he had previously performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Dr Siti Hasmah after an emergency call before her death was confirmed. He observed that Mahathir was deeply affected by the loss, noting that the former leader was largely silent and spent much of the time in tears.

Public Health Malaysia (PHM) highlighted the medical team, which includes doctors of Malay, Chinese, and Indian descent, describing them as a reflection of Malaysia’s multicultural society. The group praised the doctors' dedication and their strict adherence to hygiene protocols to minimize infection risks while caring for the former Prime Minister.
