Mahershala Ali cites rapper Ka as inspiration for new role

Actor Mahershala Ali has cited the late rapper Kaseem ‘Ka’ Ryan as a primary inspiration for his character in the film ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’. During a red carpet interview at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the two-time Academy Award winner discussed his role as Latif, a Muslim hitman.

Ali noted that he frequently listened to Ka’s album ‘Honor Killed The Samurai’ to capture the appropriate tone for the character. He described the music as intentional, methodical, and possessing a special energy that suited the role. Ali, who previously recorded music under the alias Prince Ali, highlighted the album's unique vibe and pace as essential to his performance.
