Mahle announces 170 job cuts at Motilla del Palancar plant
The German automotive component manufacturer Mahle has announced a new workforce reduction plan at its plant in Motilla del Palancar, Cuenca, which could affect approximately 170 jobs. The company stated that these adjustments are necessary to adapt to persistent market challenges and ensure long-term sustainability in Spain, noting that the expected recovery in the electric vehicle market has not materialized.
Mahle cited pressure on demand and manufacturers delaying or canceling vehicle programs as key factors. This new measure follows a previous restructuring process a year ago that resulted in 466 layoffs. The labor union CCOO has rejected the company's proposal, criticizing the management for a lack of alternatives and noting that the proposed cuts affect roughly 35% of the Motilla del Palancar workforce. The company has initiated a consultation process with worker representatives to seek solutions for those potentially affected.
