MAHLE unveils new thermal management and electric truck technologies

Automotive supplier MAHLE is unveiling new technologies for the rail and commercial vehicle sectors at upcoming industry trade fairs.

For rail transport, the company is showcasing thermal management systems designed to enhance the performance and safety of high-performance batteries in locomotives. MAHLE is also presenting a compact combined cooling system for electric multiple units that integrates the cooling of several vehicle systems, such as traction motors and transformers, into a single unit to improve energy efficiency and reliability.

In the commercial vehicle sector, MAHLE will debut a new range extender system for large electric trucks at IAA Transportation. This system combines an electric drive with a compact internal combustion engine to extend vehicle range to over 800km while reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 80% compared to traditional systems. The unit is designed to be easily integrated into existing battery electric vehicle (BEV) platforms, allowing for reduced battery capacity and lower vehicle weight. Additionally, the company will introduce a rare-earth-free MCT electric motor for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, which aims to reduce weight and eliminate the need for permanent magnets.
