Mahler symphonies featured in recent orchestral performances
Conductors Klaus Mäkelä and Alexander Shelley have recently led performances of works by Gustav Mahler.
During his fall residency with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Klaus Mäkelä performed Mahler’s Ninth Symphony. The piece, often interpreted as the composer’s farewell to life, is noted for its technical difficulty and emotional depth. The performance concluded with a standing ovation for both the conductor and the orchestra.
In Costa Mesa, California, Alexander Shelley began his tenure as artistic and music director of the Pacific Symphony by conducting Mahler’s Second Symphony. The performance, which featured the Pacific Chorale at Segerstrom Concert Hall, was characterized by its clarity and intimate, chamber-like execution of the vast score.
