Mahmoud Abbas visits Ankara for talks with President Erdoğan
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas visited Ankara for official talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During a joint press conference, Erdoğan accused the Netanyahu government of attempting to marginalize the Palestinian cause and remove it from the global agenda by exploiting regional chaos and conflicts.
Erdoğan highlighted that according to UN data, approximately 3,800 Palestinians were displaced in 2026 due to settler terrorism, demolitions, and evacuations. He emphasized that supporting Palestine is a collective responsibility for the Islamic world and humanity. Turkey reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.
President Abbas expressed gratitude for Turkey's support and called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803. This resolution aims to end the war in Gaza, restore Palestinian legitimacy in the territory, and facilitate a transition toward a political process. Abbas also asserted that the Gaza Strip remains an integral part of the State of Palestine and maintained that a lasting peace requires an end to the occupation.
