Mahnaz Maimanat elected Secretary General of the PMOI/MEK
Mahnaz Maimanat has been elected as the new Secretary General of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) for a two-year term. The election was conducted through a three-stage voting process involving members across France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Albania.
In the initial round of voting, Maimanat received 56% of the votes, competing against candidates Badri Pourtabbakh and Narges Azdanlou. She secured 85% of the vote in the second round and was elected with near-unanimous support in the final stage. Following her election, Maimanat appointed Pourtabbakh and Azdanlou as her Senior Deputies.
As part of the leadership transition, outgoing Secretary General Zahra Merrikhi has assumed the role of President of the PMOI Central Council. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), praised the election, stating it reflects the organization’s resolve regarding the political future of Iran. The PMOI maintains that political change in Iran should emerge from within Iranian society through organized resistance rather than foreign military intervention.
