Mahrang Baloch accuses Balochistan judiciary of acting as state accomplice

Mahrang Baloch, chief organiser of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has accused the judiciary in Pakistan’s Balochistan province of acting as an accomplice to state institutions. In a statement issued from Huda Jail in Quetta, Baloch activist Mahrang Baloch alleged that the courts have lost their impartiality and public trust, claiming judges are delivering verdicts based on state directives rather than independent legal principles.

Mahrang Baloch specifically cited Chief Justice of Balochistan Kamran Mulakhail, alleging that he is personally handling all BYC cases. She further claimed that other judges, including Justice Muhammad Ali Mubeen and Justice Qadir Shah Bukhari, have been tasked with following state instructions.

The activist highlighted the case of BYC leader Gulzadi Baloch as evidence of judicial misconduct, noting that proceedings continued on September 7 despite a court strike and the absence of defense counsel. Mahrang Baloch also raised concerns regarding the right to a fair trial, stating that government lawyers were appointed without consent while defendants were deprived of their fundamental right to defense.
