Mai Chwalińska's Roland Garros run draws global media attention and praise

Polish 24‑year‑old Mai Chwalińska surged from the qualifiers to the final of Roland Garros 2026, ultimately losing 3‑6, 2‑6 to Russia’s Mirra Andriejewa. Her performance lifted her WTA ranking from 114 to 21 and generated widespread acclaim.

Her manager, Piotr Szczypka, revealed that the first person to back her was his own father, who became her initial sponsor and funded her early training. Szczypka emphasized his belief in her talent despite scepticism from others.

International media coverage was massive: roughly 5,000 pieces in the United States and about 25,000 articles across foreign outlets, including Germany and the United Kingdom. In Poland, more than 32,000 traditional media items were published, while social‑media activity exceeded five million interactions.

Former Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu praised Chwalińska to BBC Sport, calling her achievement “rare” and “inspiring” and noting the confidence it should give the young Polish player.
