Mai Phu commune responds to African swine fever outbreaks
Two outbreaks of African swine fever have been confirmed in Mai Phu commune, Ha Tinh province. Following testing by the National Center for Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing I, authorities identified the cause of death in pigs from two separate households in Gia My and Ngoc My villages.
In the first instance, five pigs totaling 232 kg died in Gia My village, followed by the death of four pigs weighing 216 kg in Ngoc My village. The commune currently has approximately 550 pig-farming households with a total population of about 2,700 pigs.
Local authorities have implemented emergency measures to contain the spread, including monitoring livestock, disinfecting farms with lime and chemicals, and prohibiting the restocking of herds in affected areas. Officials have also ordered strict controls on the transport and sale of animals, warning against the illegal slaughter or disposal of diseased livestock.
