Maia Municipality creates new support tier for families

The Maia Municipality has approved the exceptional creation of a new socio-educational support tier, named ‘Escalão C’, to assist families during the 2026/2027 school year. This measure aims to address the current socioeconomic context by supporting households that fall into the third tier of family allowances but have incomes close to those in the second tier.

The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 1,163 students. Key provisions include a 25% discount on school meals for preschool, primary, and public secondary school students in this tier. Additionally, the measure provides financial aid for activity books, school supplies, and study trips for preschool and primary school students.

Furthermore, the ‘Escalão C’ will impact the Family Support Program by reducing costs by 25% for childcare, extended hours, and services provided during school breaks.
