Maiduguri Catholic Bishop calls for prayers to defeat Boko Haram

The Catholic Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese, Most Rev. Oliver Dashe, has called on Christians to intensify their prayers to combat insecurity and defeat the Boko Haram insurgency. Speaking at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Maiduguri during a session for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dashe emphasized that while spiritual intervention is vital, it must be paired with decisive action from security agencies and the government.

Dashe noted a period of relative peace in parts of Borno State following nearly 17 years of devastating insurgency. However, he warned against complacency, stating that both citizens and authorities must remain vigilant. He suggested that prayer serves as a way for the faithful to remain alert and committed to the collective effort of securing the country.
