Maiella mountain sees first snowfall of the season
The Maiella massif in the Abruzzo region of Italy is experiencing its first snowfall of the season, marking the transition from autumn to winter. At higher altitudes, the arrival of snow contrasts with the warm colors of autumn foliage, such as yellow, orange, and red, found in the lower forests and valleys.
Photographer Marino Baroncini captured the landscape on October 13, 2026, documenting the coexistence of white peaks and green vegetation. While the snow signals changing weather patterns and colder temperatures, it does not necessarily indicate a permanent winter snowpack at this early stage. Hikers and mountain enthusiasts are advised to monitor weather forecasts and prepare appropriate equipment, as conditions such as wind, visibility, and temperature can change rapidly in the mountains.
