Main-Kinzig-Kreis celebrates Open Monument Day

The Main-Kinzig-Kreis will participate in the national ‘Tag des offenen Denkmals’ (Open Monument Day) on September 13, 2026. The event follows the theme ‘Networks: Monuments and Infrastructure.’

Local celebrations in the region are set to begin on Saturday, September 12, starting at the Alte Post in Biebergemünd-Bieber, home to the Biebergrund-Museum. The area highlights its historical significance as a trade hub, featuring a former postal coach route between Frankfurt and Leipzig and the 1885 establishment of a railway line from Bieber to Wirtheim.

Activities include exhibitions of ore from the Spessart region and a lecture by museum director Martina Weibezahn regarding the history of the Spessartbahn. Members of the Biebergemünd history association will be available to discuss the region's cultural heritage, including mining and transport history.
