Maine and Michigan Senate races remain highly competitive
New CNN polls conducted by SSRS indicate that Senate races in Maine and Michigan are extremely competitive, with no clear leader emerging in either contest.
In Maine, the election is heavily influenced by voter sentiment regarding incumbent Senator Susan Collins and Donald Trump. The Democratic race saw a late change when Troy Jackson replaced Graham Platner following allegations of sexual assault, which Platner has denied. Many voters in the state are still becoming acquainted with Jackson.
In Michigan, the focus is on candidate ideology. Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive Democrat, is running against former Republican Congressman Mike Rogers. Polling shows 50% of voters consider El-Sayed’s positions too liberal, while 42% view Rogers as too conservative. While many believe El-Sayed would seek significant change in Washington, only 20% feel the same about Rogers.
Across both states, economic concerns and the cost of living are the primary drivers for voters. Additionally, Donald Trump remains unpopular in both regions, with approximately two-thirds of voters expressing disapproval of his performance. Most likely voters in both states indicated a preference for Democratic control of the Senate.
