Maine bans sweepstakes gambling and dual-currency networks
Maine has officially outlawed sweepstakes casinos and dual-currency gaming networks. The state has moved to prohibit these platforms, with authorities prepared to levy civil charges of up to $100,000 for every instance of unauthorized operation.
Following the crackdown, the organization VGW ceased its sweepstakes operations in Maine on July 13. Under the new enforcement measures, operators, affiliates, or customers participating in these platforms may face legal consequences under racketeering statutes, which are considered more severe than previous single-offense classifications.
While some sweepstakes brands are known for quick redemptions and large bonuses, the legal landscape in Maine has shifted significantly toward strict prohibition.
