Maine cinema features horror classics and indie films
Maine's cinematic landscape features a variety of notable films, ranging from horror classics to contemporary independent documentaries. The state's unique geography and atmosphere have served as a backdrop for several horror productions, including the 1989 Stephen King adaptation ‘Pet Sematary’, which utilized locations in Hancock and Bangor. Other films filmed within the state include ‘Pod’ in Round Pond, ‘Black Rock’ in Milbridge, and ‘The Langoliers’, which features the Bangor International Airport.
In addition to horror, Maine's independent movie houses are hosting diverse programming this fall. Upcoming screenings include John Wilson’s documentary ‘The History of Concrete’ at the Portland Museum of Art, a film exploring life and human connection through the lens of urban infrastructure. Other scheduled cultural events include screenings of ‘Faust’ and various classic and animated productions.
