Maine Democrats and former logger confront legacy of ex‑Governor Paul LePage

State Auditor Matt Dunlap is pressing national Democratic leaders for aid in his campaign to unseat former Republican Governor Paul LePage in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. With less than 100 days before the November election, Dunlap’s allies say the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has not yet listed him as a “Red to Blue” priority, despite the race’s high stakes in a district Trump carried in 2024.

Separately, future Senate candidate Troy Jackson was identified by CNN as the person behind the “Canadians for LePage” pseudonym used to post confrontational comments about LePage on the Bangor Daily News website in 2012. The leaked Disqus data showed Jackson’s use of the alias to both support and criticize LePage on issues such as immigration‑related logging permits and unemployment‑benefit reforms.
