Maine features extensive coastline and thriving craft beer industry
Maine features a diverse landscape characterized by a vast, primarily rocky coastline and a significant craft beer industry. While the state possesses approximately 3,500 miles of coastline, sandy beaches account for only about 70 miles, or 2% of the total. Old Orchard Beach, located in Saco Bay and spanning the towns of Scarborough, Old Orchard Beach, and Saco, is the state's longest beach at over seven miles.
Additionally, Maine has established itself as a major hub for craft brewing, boasting over 100 breweries. In 2024, the state held the second-highest number of breweries per capita in the United States. Beyond the well-known coastal tourist areas like Portland and Bar Harbor, the industry includes various local establishments throughout the western foothills and Downeast regions.
