Maine high school volleyball sees key wins and seasonal shifts
High school volleyball programs in Maine are navigating early-season matchups and roster transitions. In Class C, Gardiner secured a 3-0 victory over rival Cony, bringing their season record to 2-1. Gardiner coach Bill Boardman noted the team is following a difficult schedule by design to prepare for a potential playoff run. Cony is currently undergoing a transition under new head coach Hannah Kibben.
In Class A, Gorham maintained its status as a top contender by defeating Thornton Academy 3-2 in a rematch of last year’s state title game. The match required a fifth-set tiebreaker to decide the winner.
Looking ahead to the 2026 outlook, regional programs show varying levels of experience. Gardiner remains a consistent contender with an upperclassman-heavy roster, while Cony and Maranacook/Winthrop are working to integrate younger players under new or evolving leadership structures. Messalonskee continues to be a stable presence in Class B following a strong previous season.
