Maine Hosts Major Drone Displays Amid Safety Concerns and Patriotic Celebration

At Maine’s annual air show held at Brunswick Executive Airport, officials deployed advanced drone‑detection systems after unauthorized drones entered the restricted airspace on opening day. Police warned that operators could be arrested and face civil penalties. The event featured the Blue Angels, the RAF Red Arrows and an F‑35 demonstration team, and authorities emphasized that rogue drones pose a safety risk to both performers and the thousands of spectators.

Separately, Boothbay Harbor is set to stage what organizers call the state’s largest drone light show, with 700 synchronized drones creating more than 20 patriotic and Maine‑inspired images over the harbor on July 18. The 15‑minute display, part of the United States’ 250th‑anniversary celebrations, will be accompanied by live music, a National Anthem performance and a view of historic vessels in the waterfront.
