Maine ranks as third worst state for teachers

Maine has been ranked as the third worst state in the nation for teachers according to an annual report by WalletHub. The state received a score of 39.12 on a 100-point scale.

The ranking is based on two primary categories: Academic & Work Environment and Opportunity & Competition. While Maine performed relatively well in the Academic & Work Environment category, ranking 17th due to factors like school system quality and pupil-to-teacher ratios, it ranked 50th out of 51 areas in Opportunity & Competition. This low ranking in the latter category is driven by metrics such as teacher salary, income growth, and other career opportunity indicators.

In contrast, Virginia was identified as the best state for teachers in the report.
