Maine towns receive Community Action Grants for climate resilience
Several towns within Maine's Senate District 13 have been awarded Community Action Grants through the Community Resilience Partnership. The program, administered by the Maine Office of Community Affairs, aims to assist communities in transitioning to clean energy and increasing resilience against climate-related effects such as flooding and severe storms.
Recipients in the district include:
• Edgecomb: $69,142 for a green future resilience project. • Monhegan Plantation: $80,000 for the preservation and repair of Monhegan Wharf, a critical deepwater access point. • Newcastle: $79,400 for drainage improvements and reconstruction of River Road, Pleasant Street, and Liberty Street. • Whitefield: $34,822.06 for municipal resilience and emergency preparedness through clean energy. • Wiscasset: $80,000 for the second phase of the Wiscasset Waterfront Resilience Project.
This funding round supports 72 communities with a total of $4.7 million in awards. Senator Cameron Reny noted that these investments are intended to strengthen local infrastructure to better handle severe weather and prevent higher future costs.
