Maine transport convoy to move oversize load from Jay to South Portland

A “super oversize” load is scheduled to begin a two-night transport from Jay to South Portland starting Tuesday evening. The massive cargo measures nearly 220 feet long, approximately 20 feet wide, and over 19 feet high, with a gross weight exceeding 683,000 pounds.

The convoy, supported by law enforcement and utility crews, will travel through Franklin, Androscoggin, Oxford, and Cumberland counties. The planned route includes Route 4, Route 117, Route 26, U.S. Route 202, Route 22, and U.S. Route 1.

Maine State Police warned that the transport and its support team will occupy most of the roadway along several sections of the route. Authorities have advised residents and businesses to avoid street parking along the designated path. Rolling road closures and traffic pattern adjustments will be implemented to manage the movement. This transport is the first of nine planned oversize loads; schedules for the remaining eight will be released following the completion of this initial trip.
