MaineHealth to cut 83 IT and analytics positions

MaineHealth, a health system that operates nine hospitals and several practice sites across Maine, announced it will eliminate a total of 83 jobs in its information technology and analytics divisions. The plan calls for the removal of 56 IT roles and 27 of the 63 analytics positions, consolidating three separate teams into a single unit. The changes are scheduled to be carried out over the next four to six weeks.

The system said the redesign is intended to align its workforce with evolving patient needs and to lower overall care costs, citing shifting federal reimbursement policies and rapid advances in technology, including artificial‑intelligence tools. No patient‑facing positions will be affected. Employees whose roles are eliminated will be invited to apply for openings in the newly formed analytics group, which will retain 36 positions, or for other roles within MaineHealth’s 24,000‑person staff. "Healthcare is changing, and we must continue to evolve with it," said Kelly Elkins, chief operating officer, while spokesperson John Porter noted the moves are part of a broader effort to reduce expenses without compromising care.
