Maine's Beach to Beacon 10K sees record field and push to break long‑standing course record

Four Maine runners—Will Geoghegan, Alec Troxell, Colin Cernik and Aaron Willingham—have been training together with the goal of beating Ben True’s 2009 state record of 29:10 at the Beach to Beacon 10K. The quartet believes the depth of talent this year gives them a realistic chance to run under the long‑standing mark.

The race, founded in 1998 by Olympic marathon champion Joan Benoit Samuelson, has grown into a marquee Maine event that attracts thousands of participants. Last year more than 6,500 runners finished the 10‑kilometre course that runs through Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. Samuelson reflected on the race’s evolution, noting its surge in popularity after Covid and its status as a community‑driven running celebration.
