Mainland Chinese Enterprises Target ASEAN Growth via Hong Kong Hub
A recent Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) survey found that 91% of mainland Chinese enterprises plan to expand into ASEAN markets within the next two years, with more than 80% intending to use Hong Kong as their launch pad. Companies are seeking to broaden sales networks, set up regional supply chains and invest in high‑value sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and new energy.
The study highlighted strong demand for Hong Kong’s professional services, including legal and accounting compliance, marketing, e‑commerce, financing and risk management. Malaysia emerged as a leading destination for these expansion plans, especially for firms involved in semiconductor manufacturing and AI‑driven innovation. Bruce Pang, director of HKTDC research, emphasized the city’s role as a "super‑connector" facilitating cross‑border opportunities across ASEAN.
