MAIO Architects wins FAD Interior Design Award for Madrid renovation

MAIO Architects has received the 2026 FAD Interior Design Award for a renovation project in the Lavapiés neighborhood of Madrid. The project focuses on transforming a compartmentalized 1970s apartment into a continuous domestic landscape.

By replacing traditional walls with curved wooden volumes and large mirrored doors, the design uses furniture as a primary architectural element to organize circulation and storage. This approach aims to adapt older, smaller properties to contemporary lifestyles by creating flexible spaces that serve multiple daily functions without increasing the total surface area.
