Maiquetía Airport to Reopen Partially After June Earthquakes

The Instituto Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía (IAIM) approved a phased commercial reopening of Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía. Operations are set to resume on 24 August with an initial capacity of 35‑40 percent, mandatory web check‑in, and limited access to temporary camp areas for passengers presenting a ticket. Boarding and disembarking will use shuttle buses, while mixed flights and those to Los Roques will operate from the Convention Terminal.

Transport Minister Francisco Garcés explained that structural damage from the 24 June tremors is being repaired. He estimated a 10‑12‑week period for a partial recovery, noting that the main runway was unharmed and that other regional airports in Valencia and Barcelona are assisting Venezuela’s international air traffic during the restoration.
