Maiquetía Airport to resume limited operations on August 24
Maiquetía International Airport is expected to resume commercial operations on Monday, August 24, following a two-month closure caused by damage from a double earthquake on June 24. The reopening will be progressive, starting with a limited schedule of approximately eight daily flights while repairs continue.
Vicky Herrera de Díaz, president of the Venezuelan Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Avavit), stated that flight tests have already been conducted to assess operational capacity. To facilitate passenger processing, authorities plan to use robust tents for security and migration checks, and buses will transport travelers to the aircraft boarding areas.
However, Marisela de Loaiza, president of the Association of Venezuelan Air Lines (ALAV), noted that there has been no official communication from the airport regarding the specific start date. She expressed concerns that the restart could be complicated because airlines have not yet received formal information regarding flight frequencies, specific schedules, or the division of international and domestic operations.
