Maiquetía International Airport to resume operations on September 1
Maiquetía International Airport, the primary aviation hub for Caracas, Venezuela, is scheduled to resume commercial operations on September 1. The reopening will utilize temporary modular metal structures to accommodate both domestic and international flights while permanent infrastructure repairs continue following devastating earthquakes on June 24.
The Instituto Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía (IAIM) announced that the provisional setup includes two departure terminals and two arrival terminals. The international departure terminal will cover approximately 4,300 square meters and has a capacity for about 780 passengers. Facilities will include air conditioning, Wi-Fi, medical services, and accessibility ramps. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines directly to confirm rescheduled itineraries.
The airport had been closed to commercial passenger traffic for approximately two months following the seismic activity, which caused significant structural damage and loss of life in the state of La Guaira. While cargo operations began a phased reopening on August 5, this September date marks the return of passenger services.
