Maison Margiela Tabi shoes emerge as global fashion trend

The Tabi shoe, characterized by its distinctive split-toe design resembling a hoof, has transitioned from a controversial fashion item to a global trend. Once viewed as unconventional or even awkward, the design has gained significant popularity through endorsements from major celebrities, including Lisa, Jennie, Rosé, and Zendaya.

The Tabi design is rooted in traditional 15th-century Japanese socks, which featured a separated big toe to accommodate thong-style sandals. Belgian designer Martin Margiela adapted this concept into contemporary footwear, debuting the Tabi in his first Maison Margiela collection in 1988. Since then, the split-toe silhouette has become a signature of the fashion house, appearing in various forms such as boots, flats, loafers, and high heels.

Despite its enduring appeal among fashion enthusiasts, the Tabi remains a polarizing item due to its unusual shape and perceived heavy silhouette, which can be challenging to style.
