Maison Margiela Tokyo celebrates 20 years in Ebisu with new research project

Maison Margiela has launched a new chapter of its research and documentation project, ‘MaisonMargiela/folders’, focusing on the history of Maison Margiela Tokyo. The brand’s first flagship store opened in the Ebisu district of Tokyo in 2000, eventually moving in 2006 to a repurposed former electrical factory building at 2-8-13 Ebisu Minami.

The project explores the identity formed by this specific location and the local community over the past two decades. It includes interviews with staff and collectors of the brand’s iconic ‘Tabi’ footwear, which draws inspiration from Japanese traditional socks.

To mark the occasion, the brand is hosting a creative partnership titled ‘Line 2’, featuring an installation by local artist Mio Suzuki and the French institution Les Manufactures Nationales - Sèvres & Mobilier National. A limited-edition ZINE will also be distributed in the Ebisu area on November 5.
