Maite Kelly discusses how her father shaped her self-image

Singer Maite Kelly has shared how her father, Dan Kelly, played a crucial role in shaping her positive body image and self-confidence. During an appearance on the podcast ‘Frühstück bei Barbara’ with host Barbara Schöneberger, the 46-year-old artist explained that she never developed a distorted relationship with her body.

To protect her from teasing and insults regarding her figure, her father would remind her that fuller-figured women have historically been regarded as goddesses. He reportedly carried a small replica of a fertility goddess in his pocket to show her during such moments, telling her, ‘Don’t worry, you are a goddess.’ Kelly stated that this instilled a sense of ‘primordial trust’ and the certainty that she is beautiful.

Maite Kelly was a member of the highly successful Irish-American musical group the Kelly Family and has been performing as a solo artist since 2007. Her latest album, ‘24/7’, was released in May.
