Maithili Thakur faces controversy over luxury Rolls-Royce sighting

Maithili Thakur, a 25-year-old BJP MLA from Bihar and popular folk singer, has faced social media criticism after being filmed arriving at Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja pandal in a luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The vehicle, reportedly valued between ₹10 crore and ₹13 crore, has sparked debate because Thakur’s 2025 election affidavit listed a Honda Activa and declared assets of approximately ₹3 crore.

Critics have pointed to the contrast between the luxury vehicle and the ongoing flood crisis in parts of Bihar. While some reports suggest the car belongs to Thakur, others note that ownership has not been officially confirmed and the vehicle may have been provided by hosts or rented for the occasion.

BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut defended Thakur, arguing that public servants should not be expected to live “poor and lifeless” lives. Ranaut stated that politicians can serve the public while maintaining their personal careers and the comforts they have earned through their own success.
