Maitland City Council approves $21m Lochinvar subdivision

Maitland City Council has approved two significant development projects, including a $21.42 million residential subdivision in Lochinvar. The 139-lot subdivision will span 16.6 hectares at 20 and 20A Cantwell Road and 60 New England Highway, with residential lots ranging from 450 to 869 square metres.

The approval followed negotiations to protect local heritage, specifically the state heritage-listed Nowlands Lochinvar Coach House and the locally listed Holy Trinity Anglican Church. To mitigate risks to heritage-listed trees, including 100-year-old hoop pines, the design was modified so that the planned widening of Cantwell Road would only occur on the eastern side of the road.

Additionally, the council narrowly approved a contentious 16-unit development in Largs, despite opposition from all 27 submitters involved in the process.
